you did WHAT?!?!

Aiden was very upset when we told him that his third haircut hadn't gone so well....

I tried to tell him that if we just style it with the side swoop no one would notice and it would be just fine, but I don't think I convinced him.

He may be right. Regardless, he will probably be wearing it to daycare tomorrow so hopefully the other babies don't say mean things.

Here's the thing.....we gave Aiden haircut #2 just before Christmas. All we did was trim the front so that he could see and so that he would actually have eyes in Christmas pictures. It worked out really well so I figured that's what we would do again. However, last time we sat him in the highchair....this time we decided to do the styling in the bathtub...where no one had a good angle and it was hard to keep Aiden sitting still. And so.....(see picture #1).

Better luck next time. And by luck I mean we'll be using the highchair. And by next time I mean tomorrow when we attempt to fix the uneven mess we made.

In other hair-worthy news, Aiden officially uses conditioner at every bath now. I held off for nearly 9 months....not quite sure why....but the back of his hair turns into a bird's nest from where he sleeps on it and mats it down while in the car seat. It's been much less ratty since I started using the conditioner, but I've also added detangler to my shopping list. He's happy that we have lots fewer knots to work out.....if only I could convince him (and myself!) this haircut is going to turn out just fine....

Just a few photos

We finally got a pair of jeans to stay up on this kid! His waist has been so tiny that every pair on non-completely elastic banded pants just fell off of him. Literally. But he's tubbed up enough that we can dress him like a mini-man. (don't be fooled and think he's standing on his own...he's actually leaning against the couch. I told Ryan I think we have a solid 4-5 weeks before he's up on two feet on his own.)

And then there's this one from the other morning. Ryan is a gem and brings me this cutie every morning so we can cozy up while Aiden has his breakfast. Yesterday he managed to wedge his big head between the pillows....and was very happy about it. (have a mentioned that I've become significantly less grumpy in the morning over the last 9 months? hard to start the day off on a bad note when you wake up to this...)

First Fort!

Let me start by apologizing for the poor quality of the "handshake" video. Ryan took it on his phone, and sometimes we don't have quite the same eye for capturing a picture. That'll teach me to fill up my phone and defer the photo/video taking. I'd take a new video, except that we've moved on from the handshake. We actually think it was part of his teething so maybe it will make a comeback since teeth 5 and 6 are on their way in....

In more fort-worthy news, Ryan built Aiden's first real fort over the weekend. (once upon a time when Aiden was just learning to move about he used underneath his bed as a fort...but that was so 3 months ago.) I will say (and the pictures will show) that it's debatable if the fort was more for dad or kid....but there's no debate that it was put to good use and enjoyed. I see a fort-full future.

Just shy of double digits

We celebrated our final single digit "birthday" last week. I've waited to put up this post because we had our wellness check today so I can post the very official size stats that will forever be recorded in Aiden's medical records. Aiden topped the charts, measuring in the 5th-10th percentile for weight (16lbs 13oz) and 25th-50th (it's a big range...) for height (27.25 inches). Not to worry though - his already-too-large-to-fit-through-the-hole head also grew over an inch in the last three months.

I say it's slightly unfortunate that Aiden has both hair and metabolism that he can't appreciate. These highly desired characteristics are hard to come by and don't last forever, and the kid hasn't a clue how good he's got it. At least he's blissfully unaware....

According to Aiden....

...2012 was the best year of his life. He thinks it will be pretty hard to top. Just in the last few weeks he's pretty sure he learned the coolest things ever - kisses, the REAL crawl (forget that army stuff! or the "worm" as Ryan calls it), how to kick, and how to high five.

But he promised to take his smiles into 2013 and be open to all it brings. Just to demonstrate his willingness to try new things, he made up the Schweizer family handshake today (watch those finger wiggle!).

Happy New Year everyone!
